Chapter 9 - Question #6 of 7

Given the definition of "virtual" (look it up), how does it apply to the concept of virtual memory detailed in sec9.3. How is it possible to run a program that is much larger than the size of physical memory available?

Virtual - simulated;  It applies in that the memory is not actual memory, but simulated memory on a hard disk.  It is possible to run a much larger program than physical memory is available because of virtual memory, controlled by the memory mapping unit (MMU) loads data from "pages" into physical memory as the CPU needs the information.
