Week 1 - Chapter 1 Digital Logic Fundamentals #1

From the title of Chapter 1, and the book overview, why do you think the material in Chapter 1 is at the beginning of the book (HINT: think of "bottom-up" approach)? Also, why do we need an algebra (see sec1.1 of book) to study digital logic circuits (think back to the algebra you learned in high school or elsewhere)?

Chapter 1 material is at the beginning because in learning about computer design the end product or reason for the design needs to be visualized throughout the design process.  Without starting with the end product/design a design or engineering team could easily create something that doesn’t fit what a buyer/customer needs.  We also need algebra becasue algebra is simply a series of simple math problems grouped together to form complex equations.
